Vision Day 2016

Macclesfield Town Hall played host to Macclesfield Eye Society’s second annual sight loss support exhibition and workshops event, Vision Day, on 8th July.
Our 2016 advice and information day at Macclesfield Town Hall featured;

  • Visual impairment support, equipment and independence specialists

Over 150 people were in attendance at the information and advice day for visually impaired people, alongside David Rutley MP, the Mayor of Macclesfield, Cllr Alift Harewood-Jones and her consort, Mr Peter Jones, the Deputy Mayor of Cheshire East, Cllr Arthur Moran and the Deputy Mayoress of Cheshire East, Mrs Carole Thomas.

David Rutley MP, who has supported the work of Macclesfield Eye Society for some time, said, “The work of Macclesfield Eye Society with blind and partially sighted people in our community is vital.  I am delighted to have attended this informative event with so many local and national sight loss support organisations present, and I would encourage others to find out more about how the Eye Society can help those affected by sight loss.”

Vision Day exhibitors included Macclesfield Talking Newspaper, Iris Vision, Guide Dogs UK, CVS, Disability Information Bureau, Action for Blind People, the Macular Society, Deafness Support Network, RNIB, Blind Veterans UK.  A selection of specialproduct suppliers, including Enhanced Vision, Dolphin, Humanware and Associated Optical, were also present to offer advice on the latest magnifiers or other low vision or speech products.

Workshops on the day covered advice on legal services, a Q&A with Cheshire East Visual Impairment Services, the Macular Society’s Skills for Seeing session, an introduction to Guide Dogs UK and a session led by Action for Blind People on the visual accessibility of smartphones and tablets.
